The Wolf Fire in California’s Riverside County has burned over 1,400 acres since it began yesterday, Sunday, June 29. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect for nearby residents as hundreds of firefighters and multiple aircraft continue battling the blaze.
As shown in the screenshot, critical updates on California evacuation zones, schools, and satellite-detected wildfire locations (hotspots) are available through DisasterAWARE. More than 150 million people across the U.S. are facing life-threatening extreme heat this week, with little to no overnight relief. Temperatures are forecast to shatter records, with daytime highs reaching into the 90s and 100s, and nighttime lows remaining in the 70s and 80s. Significant heat impacts are also expected to be experienced in dense urban centers.
The new Temperature layer in DisasterAWARE can be animated to display the latest temperature forecast for the coming days. Keep in mind: heat index values—how hot it really feels—often feel significantly hotter than the recorded temperatures.

Sending aloha and a big mahalo (thank you) to our Peruvian partners following DisasterAWARE training this week with the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) in Abancay. This was the second in a series of six regional trainings—the first took place in Chachapoyas back in September—and focused on preparation and response to major hazards such as fires and landslides. The engagement supports a USSOUTHCOM initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of regional Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) across the country.
PDC’s partnership with Peru began in 2014 with the National Disaster Preparedness Baseline Assessment (learn more at pdc.org/NDPBA), in collaboration with the National Emergency Operations Center. The partnership has continued over the years through training, exercises, and support during major disasters.

Erick, now a Category 1-strength hurricane, is rapidly intensifying and is expected to become a major hurricane either tonight or early Thursday as it approaches the coast of southern Mexico.
Based on PDC’s latest Event Brief, an estimated 1.29 million people (approximately 344,000 households) may be exposed to damaging winds along Erick’s projected track. Hurricane Erick is also expected to produce heavy rainfall across parts of Central America and southwest Mexico, resulting in life-threatening flooding and mudslides. In addition, dangerous storm surge is expected to produce coastal flooding near and to the east of where Erick’s center makes landfall.

Tropical Storm Erick is anticipated to intensify into a hurricane by tomorrow as it approaches the coasts of Oaxaca and Guerrero in southern Mexico.

Hawai'i State Emergency Management Agency conducted its annual, statewide Makani Pahili Hurricane Preparedness Exercise on June 10-12, engaging multiple stakeholder agencies including county emergency management, state-level departments, nongovernmental organizations, Hawai’i’s National Guard, and the Department of Defense Coordinating Element to ensure island-wide readiness for the 2025 hurricane season.

The Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) joined partners at the Port of Miami on June 3 to mark the send-off of the USNS Comfort for Continuing Promise 2025. The mission will deliver critical medical assistance and deepen regional collaboration across Latin America and the Caribbean.
PDC will continue its support of Continuing Promise in 2025, with DisasterAWARE training and exercise support slated for the Ecuador and Dominican Republic as part of the humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) track, which will strengthen disaster preparedness with these partner nations.
Both Ecuador and the Dominican Republic have partnered with PDC through the National Disaster Preparedness Baseline Assessment (NDPBA) project—a long-term initiative that helps countries assess risk and disaster management capacity. PDC's advanced analytics and integrated situational awareness tools are leveraged during the assessment process to strengthen early warning systems, disaster preparedness, policy and planning, and enhance resilience-building efforts. Canada is battling intense wildfires across multiple provinces, including Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. Latest reports show 170+ active wildfires nationwide and over half are not yet under control. Wildfires in Manitoba and Saskatchewan have led officials to declare states of emergency, with large-scale evacuations underway as fires continue to threaten communities and infrastructure. Air quality alerts have been issued across central Canada and have extended into parts of the Upper Midwest in the United States.
PDC is closely monitoring the situation and sharing critical updates through DisasterAWARE and the free Disaster Alert mobile app (learn more at pdc.org/DisasterAWARE). In addition to issuing critical alerts on wildfires, DisasterAWARE also provides exclusive access to PDC’s advanced analytics—such as Event Brief, which offers vital information on estimated population and infrastructure exposed, vulnerable populations, economic losses, infrastructure, lifelines, and mass care needs.
